Summerville, South Carolina Carlisle W. Courtenay 98, died Thursday, November 9, 2006 at the Summerville Medical Center. He was a native and longtime resident of Savannah. He attended local Savannah schools and was a graduate of Georgia Tech.
He was a veteran of the Army Air Corp serving in WWII. He worked with the Savannah Sugar Refinery and was a Merchant Marine. Mr. Courtenay was a Mechanical Engineer, licensed in South Carolina and Massachusetts working until his retirement with the Department of Defense at the Charleston Naval Shipyard.
Surviving are, a son and daughter-in-law, Edward B. and Karen Courtenay of Summerville, South Carolina, a daughter and son-in-law, Susan C. and Dennis Burns of Raleigh, North Carolina, grandchildren, Brooke Swindell and husband, Terry, Elizabeth Anne Courtenay and Thomas Carlisle Courtenay, a niece, Elizabeth Derst and several great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 11, 2006 from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel.
Graveside Services will be Saturday, November 11, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Laurel Grove Cemetery.
